As your local trusted electrician in Bristol, I recently received a call from a homeowner concerned about her electrics following a leak in their home.
Upon arrival, it quickly became apparent that the electrics in the property were very old and dangerous. The cables were VIR (Vulcanised India Rubber), which are not suitable for modern electrical systems, and can pose a significant safety risk due to the insulation becoming dry and brittle leading to exposed live electrical wires.
After discussing the situation with the homeowner, we decided to switch off the power for safety reasons and came to the conclusion that a rewire was necessary, in order to ensure the safety of the property and its occupants.
I also discussed the best way to carry out the rewire, taking into account the homeowner's concerns about damage to the decor and additional costs for plastering and decorating.
After careful consideration, we decided to carry out the rewire in PVC trunking. This approach offered a number of benefits. Firstly, it meant that there would be minimal damage to the decor, as the trunking could be discreetly installed and painted to blend in with the existing walls. This was particularly important to the homeowner,
who had invested a lot of time and money in creating her home. Secondly, using PVC trunking meant that there would be no additional costs for plastering or decorating. This was a significant factor for the homeowner, who was keen to keep the costs of the project as low as possible. Finally, carrying out the rewire in PVC trunking meant that the homeowner could move back into their property as soon as possible. This was particularly important
to them, as they were keen to get back to their normal routine after the disruption caused by the leak and subsequent electrical issues.
Overall, this was a challenging project, but one that I was able to complete to a high standard. By working closely with the homeowner and taking their concerns into account, I was able to ensure that the rewire was carried out in a way that met their needs and expectations.
