Step by step- Installing a new socket.
Once I’ve discussed your requirements and know the type of socket you want to have installed, the process is quite quick to reduce disruption to you day to day.
- I usually test the power supply before commencing any electrical services. The power is then switched off during the installation process.
- Socket facing or face plates are removed.
- Wiring is then removed, any new rewiring is installed.
- The new face plates of socket facing are installed and the consumer unit will be switched back on.
- Testing of plug sockets and switches to ensure all aspects are functioning and functioning safely.
Key factors to consider
As an experienced electrician, there are a few factors I always share with customers before commencing work such as socket installation.
- Conduct a walk through of the room you are renovating and plan ahead so that multiple sockets can be installed at the same time, this can be more cost effective for you.
- I will take a look at your fuse box or consumer unit to ensure it can handle the extra sockets.
- I always suggest customers place any sockets in the kitchen away from sources of water and heat.
- There are a range of socket styles and materials. For example, any metal sockets must be earthed by a qualified electrician such as myself.
